Open positions: 3 postdoctoral positions
Centre of Mathematics for Applications (CMA) is funded as a 'Centre of Excellence' by the Research Council of Norway. Read more about CMA here.
We hereby invite applications
for 3 postdoc positions and 2 PhD scholarships
- All positions are available from October 1, 2008, but the start
date may be delayed if necessary.
- Applications with all necessary enclosures must be received
by August 31, 2008
- The positions will be granted for a period of 2
years.
CMA is an international research centre in which the focus of the research is mathematics motivated from applications, with emphasis on problems arising from modern scientific computing. Classical pure mathematicians and numerical analysts with a strong commitment to theory are merged in the centre. The activity at CMA is built upon four pillars represented by different research areas – geometry, stochastic analysis, differential equations, and applications in the physical sciences; the latter group mainly focuses on computational problems in quantum mechanics and astrophysics. The main vision of CMA is:
To create significant development in modern mathematics based on an interplay between theory, computations, and applications.
Special requirements for the announced positions
One of the positions is tied to the EURYI-project of Associate Professor Snorre Christiansen.
For this position we are looking for a candidate interested in mathematical and/or practical aspects of simulating partial differential equations from general relativity. A background from numerical analysis, possibly computational physics, is preferable.
For the remaining 2 positions, no such preferences are given. Here applicants will be evaluated and ranked with respect to the research plan of the centre. Whoever is employed must demonstrate their scientific competence within mathematics or a related applied area. Preference will be given to applicants with experience of computational problems within the relevant areas, or with experience in problems that combine aspects from two or more of the areas.
The full research plan can be found here
For all positions, applications must include complete information about education, former positions, teaching and administrative experience (documented), and a list of publications. Applicants must hold a PhD or at least have submitted their PhD thesis. Women are especially encouraged to apply.
