Open positions: 1-2 Postdoctoral Positions
Centre of Mathematics for Applications (CMA) was on March 1, 2003,
funded as a 'Centre of Excellence' by the Research Council of Norway.
CMA is one of three such centres at the University of Oslo.
The departments of Informatics, Mathematics, Physics and the Institute
of Theoretical Astrophysics are involved, with collaboration from
SINTEF Applied Mathematics. There are also participants (centre
members) from the universities in Bergen and Trondheim. Read more
about CMA here.
We hereby invite applications
for 1-2 postdoc positions
- The positions are available from September 1, 2004, but the
start date may be delayed if necessary.
- The positions will be granted for a maximum period of 2 years
and will include up to 10% teaching duties.
- Applications with all necessary enclosures must be received
by June 1, 2004.
The main vision of CMA is to create a national research centre
in mathematics where top class scientists from different areas can
work together with a joint perspective and common goals. The main
focus is on mathematics motivated from applications, with emphasis
on problems arising from modern scientific computing. The activity
in the centre is built upon 4 different research areas: geometry,
stochastic analysis, differential equations and applications in
the physical sciences (mainly within astrophysics and computational
quantum mechanics). The centre specifically focuses on research
activities on the boundaries and intersections of these areas.
Applicants will be evaluated and ranked with respect to the research
plan of the centre. Whoever is employed must demonstrate their scientific
competence within mathematics or a related applied area. Preference
will be given to applicants with experience of computational problems
within the relevant areas, or with experience in problems that combine
aspects from two or more of the areas.
The full research plan can be found here
Applications must include complete information about education,
former positions, teaching and administrative experience (documented),
and a list of publications. Applicants must hold a PhD or at least
have submitted their PhD thesis. Women are especially encouraged
to apply.
