2 Post-Doctoral Positions and 2 PhD Scholarships
in “Mathematics for Applications”
A group of researchers from the departments of mathematics, informatics,
physics, and astrophysics at The University of Oslo were recently
funded status as a “Centre of Excellence” by the Research
Council of Norway. “Mathematics for applications” will
be one of three such centres at the University of Oslo.
The main vision is to create a national research centre in mathematics
where top class scientists from different areas can work together
with a joint prospectus and common goals. The main focus will be
on mathematics motivated from applications, with emphasis on problems
arising from modern scientific computing.
We hereby invite applications
for 2 post-doc. positions and 2 PhD scholarships
- All four positions are available from 1 March 2003, but the
start date may be delayed if necessary.
- Applications with all necessary enclosures must be received
by 4 February.
- The postdoc. positions will be granted for a maximum period
of 2 years and will include up to 10% teaching duties.
- The PhD positions will be granted for a maximum period of 3
years.
The activity in the centre will be built upon 4 different research
areas: geometry, stochastic analysis, differential equations and
applications in the physical sciences. Applicants will be evaluated
and ranked with respect to the research plan of the centre. Whoever
is employed must demonstrate their scientific competence within
mathematics or a related applied area. Preference will be given
to applicants with experience of computational problems within the
relevant areas, or with experience in problems that combine aspects
from two or more of the areas.
The full research plan can be found here
For the post-doctoral positions
Applications must include complete information about education,
former positions, teaching and administrative experience (documented),
and a list of publications. Applicants must hold a PhD or at least
have submitted their PhD thesis. Women are especially encouraged
to apply.
For the PhD positions
Applications must include complete information about education at
both bachelor and master level, and documented scientific experience.
All employees must satisfy the entrance requirements for the doctoral
degree programme at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
Women are especially encouraged to apply.
